The Importance of Your Rear-View Mirror This Christmas

Christmas is just a little more than a week away.  Does that fact make you anxious or stressed?  If so, you’re certainly not alone.

Especially at this time of year, we can find ourselves grumbling and complaining about how much we have to do to get ready for the holidays.  If we’re not careful, we can easily get caught up in the chaotic, frenzied pace of the season – as if we don’t have a choice.

However, we do have a choice.  We can intentionally say “yes” to what matters most and say “no” to all the extra or last-minute things we think we need to do.

Having faced some significant health challenges this past year, realizing that three of my nephews will be graduating very soon and heading in different directions, and the fact that my father-in-law (although in good health) is 92 years old – all of that has made one thing very clear; things may not be the same next Christmas.  Therefore, what matters most to me this Christmas, is marinating in the joy of the season.

Joy comes from acknowledging the gift of a Savior, and the love of God family and friends.  (1st John 4:16)

When this Christmas is in your rear-view mirror, what do you want to see?  Whatever that is, make it your focus this week.
